BeatStars vs Airbit vs TrakTrain: Where Should You Sell?
BeatStars, Airbit or TrakTrain: where should you sell beats?
Short answer: BeatStars has the biggest marketplace and the most buyers, so it is the default first choice. Airbit is worth it for the zero-commission model and built-in Content ID. TrakTrain is smaller but gives you a free YouTube cross-post and an engaged audience. Most producers who sell seriously do not pick one, they list on more than one, and the real challenge is uploading to all of them without doing the work three times.
Here is how they actually differ, and why the answer is usually "more than one".
BeatStars: the default
BeatStars is the largest type beat marketplace, which is the thing that matters most. Buyers are already there searching, so a well-tagged beat can get found on day one. It has solid upload tooling, including AI metadata autofill and reusable templates, and a free tier to start with paid plans above it.
If you only set up one shop, this is the one. The audience size does the heavy lifting that a smaller platform cannot.
Airbit: the commission angle
Airbit's pitch is the money model. On its paid plans it takes zero commission on sales, where marketplaces that take a cut add up over time if you sell volume. It also generates a YouTube video automatically and offers Content ID protection.
The trade is reach. The marketplace is smaller than BeatStars, so you are trading some buyer traffic for keeping more of each sale. For a producer doing real volume, the commission math can make it worth running alongside BeatStars rather than instead of it.
TrakTrain: the free YouTube cross-post
TrakTrain has a smaller but engaged audience, and its standout feature is a free YouTube cross-post that auto-generates a video and SEO metadata from your track upload. That is a genuine time saver if YouTube is part of your plan.
It does not integrate with BeatStars, so it sits as a separate shop. Treat it as another place to be found rather than a replacement for the big marketplace.
Do not forget YouTube and SoundCloud
The three marketplaces are where the sale closes, but they are not where most buyers first hear a beat. YouTube is the discovery engine for type beats, and SoundCloud still has an audience that browses and shares. A beat that lives only in a marketplace misses the people searching on those two.
So the full picture is wider than "which marketplace". It is the marketplace where you sell, plus YouTube and SoundCloud where buyers find you, all carrying the same beat. That is four or more uploads per release once you count them.
A word on fees
Each platform makes money differently, and the models shift, so check the current terms before you commit. The rough shape: BeatStars runs a free tier plus paid plans, Airbit leans on zero commission on its paid plans, and the smaller platforms vary. For low volume the differences barely matter. As you sell more, the commission and subscription math is worth a real look, which is another reason serious sellers spread across platforms rather than betting on one.
The real answer is "more than one"
Notice the pattern. None of these platforms talks to the others. BeatStars does not cross-post to Airbit, Airbit does not list on TrakTrain, and a buyer searching on one will never see your beat on another.
So the producers who sell most are on several at once, seeding the same beat everywhere a buyer might look. That is the smart move and the painful one, because it means uploading the same beat, with the same metadata, into three or four different forms by hand. I broke down what that actually costs per week in The True Cost of Manual Beat Uploads.
Upload everywhere without the triple work
This is the exact problem BeatOps was built for. Instead of choosing one platform to keep your sanity, you set up the beat once and push it to YouTube, BeatStars and SoundCloud from one workflow, with the metadata filled in for each.
| ❌ Selling on multiple platforms by hand | ✅ With BeatOps |
|---|---|
| Re-upload the same beat to each shop | One workflow covers them |
| Retype metadata into every form | Filled in automatically per platform |
| Pick one platform to save time | Be everywhere without the extra hours |

So, where should you sell?
Start on BeatStars for the audience. Add Airbit if the commission model fits your volume, and TrakTrain if you want its free YouTube cross-post and its crowd. Then make being on all of them cheap enough that it does not eat your week. The platform you sell on matters less than showing up consistently on the ones your buyers use.
